Chasing Lights

I've been living
Like a moth fly trapped indoors
Always chasing some fluorescent light
And when I get there
It keeps me warm for a little while
'til I notice that it isn't real
And there's no comfort in the plastic
No warmth in glass or steel
Though I try I can't look past it
Can't feel what I don't feel
When I dream I dream of skies
Opened up and friendly bright
Space for us to keep floating along
If you peer inside my eyes
You will find that flickering light
Somehow barely holding on
Every second
Feels like a second gone to waste
And they build up to form weeks and days
Still I'm searching
For some tranquil state of mind
A disposition to feel at home
But there's no comfort in the plastic
No warmth in glass or steel
Though I try I can't look past it
Can't feel what I don't feel
When I dream I dream of skies

I get this static in my mind sometimes
And I can't help it
I'll just have to find some way to turn it off
So you bring the drinks, I'll bring my haunted head
And we can find out
What it takes to put these ghosts back into bed
I wanna dash out
Laugh 'til I pass out
I wanna shake these cobwebs off
Let's go and find some place we've never seen before
So it won't remind us
Of all the dull and tiresome things that make up our lives
I'll wear this stupid grin although my face is numb
Lungs full of laughter
I'll joke about myself and my meaningless plans
I wanna dash out
Laugh 'til I pass out
I wanna shake these cobwebs off
Break out, break loose and forget everything
Take some time off from our earthly worries
Leave them for the morning
We'll stay up just a while more
We'll find out when the sun goes down
